Gold Program Elective Program Band

ENTRY TO THE GOLD PROGRAM

Dear Parents and Carers

The Gold Program at Gold Creek School was established in 2009. It caters for students from Preschool to Year 10 who demonstrates a level of giftedness as described by Francois Gagne:

‘Giftedness refers to a student’s outstanding innate ability in one or more of the following domains: intellectual creative, socio affective or sensory motor (2007)’

‘Talent refers to outstanding performance in one or more of the following fields: academic, the arts, business, leisure, social action, sports and technology (2003)’ Gifted and Talented Students, ACT DET Policy 2008

Profoundly gifted students represent the top 2% of the whole school population.  Moderately gifted students represent the top 3-10% of the school population. Should your child fit within the range of a gifted learner, please fill out the attached documentation and return it to the administration office.

Students who are not involved with the Gold Program will continue to have a differentiated curriculum, access to extension and enrichment opportunities, competitions and placement with a group of students with similar abilities,  but not an Individual Learning Plan (ILP).

Please note that students who are gifted and talented in a non-academic area only, will have differentiation and extension arrangements made as part of their mainstream placement at Gold Creek School.

All applications must be received by the school before the 31st October for your child to be considered for the Gold Program the following academic year.

If you have any questions, please contact me, one of the deputies, or one of the Gifted and Talented Coordinators.

Yours faithfully,

Sue Jose, Principal
